City of Light event – lighting experiences for everyone
The City of Light event, formerly also known as the Light in Jyväskylä event, has attracted a great deal of interest. The event has thus improved the general knowledge on Jyväskylä as well as the City of Light project itself.
The event is an important forum for lighting professionals, and the national significance of the event is notable because it is unique in Finland. No similar events for introducing new lighting techniques and architectural lighting systems exist in Finland. This is a valuable opportunity for Jyväskylä to develop its profile as an innovative leading city in modern urban lighting systems.
Jyväskylä collaborates with numerous companies and organizations in creating the City of Light event. Both the permanently lighted areas and the temporarily lighted illuminations form vital parts of the event. The temporarily illuminated areas are designed to be experimental and they can help produce creative ideas on what lights can be used for, and inhabitants and visitors can literally see the city in a different light!
The next City of Light event will be held in 2010.
Light Trilogy lights the city centre in a new way
Light Trilogy combines light, sound and images in a whole new manner. The facade of upper secondary school Lyseo is used as a stage for the Light Trilogy.
Three different shows, all displayed in different stages of winter, form the Light Trilogy. First show, Talviuni (Hibernation), can be seen on Wednesday, Friday and Saturday evening at 18, 19, 20, 21 and 22 o’clock starting 22nd of November. The second show, Energia (Energy) starts in February, and the third show, Elegia (Elegy) in autumn 2011.
