Jyväskylä gets a new May Day tradition, the May Day announcement!

This year, Jyväskylä's May Day will kick off with a bang, when a student-created Vappukuulutus! echoes from the Harju Tower to signal the start of the spring festival week. The song, composed by students and played by Puhkupillit, will be heard from Harju on Wednesday 24 April at 20.00. In addition to the students, Jyväskylä's May Day celebrations offer a wide range of activities for families with children and anyone else interested in the spring festivities.

The City of Jyväskylä's Business Development Services will abandon the Business Jyväskylä brand and will adopt the name City of Jyväskylä Business Services. The new name and logo will be introduced by the end of 2023.

The federal council of the Finnish Athletics Federation (SUL) has granted the 2026 Athletics Championship, the Kaleva Games (Kalevan Kisat), to Jyväskylä. The City of Jyväskylä and the Jyväskylä Field Athletes (JKU) jointly applied for competitions for 2026, which is the 100th anniversary of Harju Stadium. Harju Stadium will be renovated and expanded by the time of the Kaleva Games.

EK Municipal ranking 2023: Jyväskylä's ranking among the top 10

According to the Municipal ranking study published by EK (Confederation of Finnish Industries), the Jyväskylä region still remains among the most business-friendly regions in Finland. In the comparison of 25 regions, Jyväskylä ranked 9th in the top 10 among large cities. Companies in the region evaluate the city's business policy and business climate more positively than the national average.
