On this site, you will find details of the policies and measures that have been introduced for schools in Jyväskylä to prevent the spread of coronavirus. They will shape how our local schools operate in the 2021/2022 academic year. The site will be updated as new information becomes available.

Updated on 26 January 2022

General guidelines for teaching arrangements

  • Only the healthy attend school.
  • Face masks are recommended to be worn in grades 6 to 9. Students will receive their face masks at the school.
  • Teaching staff wear a face mask or visor at the workplace.
  • Teaching will be organized in accordance with normal scheduling and lesson plans.
  • The teaching groups in years one through six will be kept separate and out of contact with one another as far as is practicable. Teaching groups in arts and physical education as well as electives may be mixed.
  • Pupils in years seven through nine will study as normal according to their schedules.
  • Meals are arranged in a staggered manner with own class or teaching group.
  • The selling of midday snack is cancelled.
  • School transportation will be arranged as normal, observing general hygienic practices.
  • On any bus trips to swimming pools or cultural destinations, safe distancing will be observed and group separation maintained.
  • The TET working life introduction period is cancelled.
  • No school camps, excursions or study visits will take place 1.1.-28.2.2022.

Before- and after-school activities, Jälkkäri

  • Jälkkäri, the basic education before- and after-school activities, will take place normally in pre-arranged small groups.
  • The Jälkkäri day will encompass as much outdoor activities as possible in the schoolyard and the immediate environs.

Visits to schools

The access of non-staff, non-pupil persons to schools will continue to be restricted. Meetings with parents will preferably be conducted remotely. If a person over the age of 12 brings children to school and encounters others over the age of 12 on the premises, they must wear a face mask. Face masks are also worn during evening recreational classes on school premises.

Instructions for pupil absences

  • A pupil should stay at home if even minor flu symptoms occur until the symptoms disappear.
  • Those with mild symptoms stay at home and can return to school once the acute symptoms have eased and the pupil is feeling good to participate normally in their studies.
  • After a positive home test result or if the student is in self-quarantine, homework is given via Wilma. The home is also contacted via Wilma messages or phone calls, if necessary, to ensure the progress of the lesson. School meals (food bags) are not provided at home.
  • An official corona test is taken from a child (under 12 years old) who: is at risk of severe coronavirus disease due to illness or medication, or is living in the same household as a person or meets regularly with family members aged 16 and over who are not fully vaccinated or who are immunocompromised against coronavirus, or if the child's symptoms require a test in the doctor's opinion, or whose carer needs an isolation certificate for the communicable disease daily allowance.

Pupil welfare services

  • School social workers and psychologists can be reached by phone on Tuesdays and Thursdays from 10 am to 11 am. They will endeavour to answer the phone at other times if possible.
  • In-person meetings can only be conducted when healthy, and meetings will observe safe distancing and good hygienic practices. If a client has respiratory symptoms, even mild ones, the meeting will be conducted remotely.
  • Family meetings, network meetings and other multidisciplinary meetings organized by schools can be held at the school premises as long as safety concerns are taken into account, or over remote connections as necessary.
